It’s been nineteen years since the Final Battle took place at Hogwarts, and a lot has changed in the wizarding world in that time. The famous Golden Trio—consisting of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger-Weasley—has grown up and each member has had children of their own; this means that now it’s time for the new generation to come to Hogwarts!
We cannot forget, of course, the fact that several children of the war heroes have already begun attending our beloved school. In fact, a few of them have even graduated and moved on to bigger and better things. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the new generation, here is a brief rundown:
War heroes Remus and Nymphadora Lupin welcomed a son shortly before the final battle, where they tragically lost their lives. Their son is Teddy Lupin (named after his maternal grandfather), a fun-loving and enigmatic Metamorphmagus that inherited his shapeshifting ability from his mother. When Teddy started school, he was Sorted into Hufflepuff, and was made Head Boy in his final year. He graduated in June of 2016 and has since pursued a career as an Auror. He is currently dating Victoire Weasley, daughter of Bill and Fleur Weasley.
Speaking of Victoire, she is known as a symbol of hope amongst her family and friends. This is because she was born on the first anniversary of the Final Battle. Her name means “victory” in French, which seems very fitting. The Gryffindor will be starting her final year at Hogwarts this September, and it is rumored that she will be named Head Girl.
Bill and Fleur Weasley have two other children, both of whom are already at Hogwarts as well. Dominique will be starting her fifth year this September, and Louis will be starting his Third. Both children were Sorted into Gryffindor, too.
The Weasley clan made sure to have plenty of children to populate the wizarding world, of that there is no doubt. George and Angelina Weasley have two children already attending Hogwarts: Fred (named after his late uncle, Fred Weasley) and Roxanne. Both were also Sorted into Gryffindor, which seems to be a long-standing tradition in the Weasley family.
Of the new generation currently attending Hogwarts, one left unmentioned thus far is James Potter, son of the famous Boy Who Lived. James will begin his third year this September. He is a member of Gryffindor as well (this certainly seems to be a pattern amongst Weasley relations, as James’ mother is none other than the former Chaser for the Holyhead Harpies, Ginny Potter nèe Weasley).
Now that you all are up to snuff with current attendees, let’s move on to more exciting news: who will be starting at Hogwarts this fall! Along with many others (including Percy Weasley’s eldest daughter Molly) are three students that are particularly anticipated: Albus Potter, Rose Granger-Weasley, and Scorpius Malfoy. Why are these three more anticipated than the rest? That’s a good question.
Albus Potter is the second son of Harry and Ginny Potter. While the majority of his family (both past and present) are in Gryffindor, it is highly rumored that Albus will be Sorted into Slytherin! It is well-known that Harry Potter has a volatile history with Slytherin House; should Albus be placed into Slytherin, how will his family receive him afterward? Some reports state that Potter has threatened to disown his son if he is Sorted into any house but Gryffindor. Alas, only time will tell.
Rose Granger-Weasley is the eldest child of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger-Weasley, the last 2/3 of the Golden Trio. While she is only the tender age of eleven, Rose is already one of the brightest minds of the new generation. It is clear that she inherited her intellect from her mother, who was often referred to as the brightest witch of her age. It is unknown whether Rose will follow in her family’s tradition of being a member of Gryffindor or if her intelligence will lead her to Ravenclaw, however. Either way, the house that will gain the privilege of calling her a member will be lucky indeed.
Scorpius Malfoy is the only son of the former Death Eater, Draco Malfoy. Scorpius’s mother, Astoria Malfoy nèe Greengrass, was recently diagnosed by a private Healer with a rare condition. An unknown curse was placed upon one of her ancestors several centuries ago, which has made Mrs. Malfoy’s body grow increasingly weak as the year’s pass. A recent miscarriage has caused a steep decline in her health. Scorpius seems to be doing very well at present time with his mother’s health being the way it is. He is often seen out in Wiltshire and around Diagon Alley escorting his mother and keeping watch over her. He is a quiet and reserved boy, but he is every bit the gentleman. Scorpius is expected to be Sorted into Slytherin, as his family has been for hundreds of years.
This year is truly shaping up to be an exciting year for Hogwarts! The next few years promise to be just as eventful. Harry and Ginny Potter’s youngest child, Lily, will be starting next year. Her cousins Hugo Granger-Weasley (Ron and Hermione’s youngest) and Lucy Weasley (Percy Weasley’s youngest daughter) will be alongside her.
As a last side note, our very own Luna Lovegood (married to famous Magizoologist Rolf Scamander—grandson to Newt Scamander) gave birth to twins Lorcan and Lysander a few months ago. We offer our congratulations to the family and wish them all the best.
