Though not quite as popular in the Wizarding world, Black Friday is known throughout Muggle communities as the official beginning to the Christmas shopping season. Occurring on the fourth Friday in the month of November, it is on this day each year that many Muggle shops hold sales bigger than a giant after a hefty dinner. The discount prices on many items are sought after by many people, some of which will even resort to extreme measures to ensure securing the purchase they desire.
This year, it seems wizards have followed in the footsteps of the Muggles and taken part in every consumer’s favorite holiday! Here are our top ten hot spots to shop throughout Diagon Alley, and its neighboring streets, Horizont Alley and the infamous Knockturn Alley. Although the sales have long ceased by the time of publication, it’s a good idea to look out for them next year!
Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley
Diagon Alley’s beloved pet shop was offering reduced adoption fees for many of their wonderful creature companions! A record one hundred thirty-six creatures were sent to new, loving homes in just one day.
Twilfitt and Tattings in Diagon Alley
While this shop isn’t the street’s most renowned robe store, it did have the best deals on Black Friday! Twilfitt and Tattings beat out its competitors with 75% off used robes and hats, as well as various other deals. Examples include 50% off of all emerald-colored clothing articles, 40% off plain, pointed hats, and 25% off of your entire purchase when no other offers were used.
Rosa Lee Teabag in Diagon Alley
A franchise with storefronts in both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Village, thirsty shoppers could get a free cookie with their purchase of select teas in the Diagon Alley location. Sounds like a tasty deal to me!
Faplox Finery in Horizont Alley
Perhaps one of the more well-known pubs in the area, Faplox Finery is famed for its attraction of many a Hogwarts staff member. To show appreciation for its customers, Faplox Finery management decreed that, for one day only, Hogwarts staff could buy any one drink free of charge, and their students could enjoy a complimentary butterbeer!
Doughnuts Delight in Horizont Alley
What’s not to love about doughnuts, especially when you can buy a dozen of them for the price of a half-dozen? Doughnuts Delight picked up on the public’s love for these round confections and offered such a sale on Black Friday! I don’t know about you, but I will definitely be going back to check out the discounts at Doughnuts Delight next year.
Taz’s Tavern in Horizont Alley
An illustrious tavern known for its excellent concoctions (including a marvelous gillywater) and partnership with the Candy King (owned by ex-Quibbler writer Foxy Jones), Taz’s Tavern was offering half off of all drinks on the shopping holiday. Although I didn’t stop there myself, I’ve heard from many weary consumers that it was a great spot to sit back with a beverage and forget about the stress of shopping for a little while!
Mr. Mulpepper’s Apothecary in Knockturn Alley
Mr. Mulpepper’s Apothecary is a great place to go when you’re looking for potion ingredients and willing to travel off the beaten path. This past Black Friday, Mr. Mulpepper himself was at the store to manage a raffle which would grant the winner a year’s supply of free porcupine quills, which are useful in various potions. His generosity, although unprecedented, was quite a thoughtful addition to the holiday! For those curious, the winner of the raffle was a young witch named Levana Cruz. Congratulations once again to her!
The White Wyvern in Knockturn Alley
A great location to grab a bite to eat, The White Wyvern was offering “25% off of your next purchase” coupons with the purchase of a meal. I managed to obtain one myself, and I can’t say I’m not excited to use it; the grub here is beyond good.
Ekrizdis’ Wizarding Equipment in Knockturn Alley
While I don’t trust half of the items here not to be bewitched, they were on sale for very low prices on Black Friday! Almost suspiciously low prices, actually. 90% off of your entire purchase seems like a very good excuse to distribute cursed items into the community. On second thought, maybe avoid this shop next time around . . .
Percival Venator’s Pest Control in Knockturn Alley
Last but not least, Percival Venator’s Pest Control had some sweet deals for the shopping holiday! The extermination service lowered their horrendously high consultant fees to prices that were more reasonable, and offered to deal with any ashwinders infesting the fireplaces of witches and wizards for fees at half of the normal rates. There’s never been a better time to have a pest in your home!
Well, readers, the sales may be over, but the Christmas shopping season is still raging! If you haven’t secured gifts for your loved ones yet this winter, you may want to do so soon. I hear the marketplace is a great way to do this; witches and wizards are selling wares through a market system, and you can access their goods with /ms [player IGN]. Happy shopping!
